    #40 Glacier National Park, MT

This was my second trip to Glacier, but the first time I saw it. I'll explain... Almost 30 years ago, Fred and I did a 3 week camping trip across Canada from the east to the west. We came back into the states at Waterton/Glacier National Park. It was so foggy that it was difficult to see anything at all, at times the end of the car hood was hard to see. Fast forward to 4th of July, 2018 and the sun is shining and the grizzlies are grazing; much better. On our way into th

60 miles north of Theodore Roosevelt South Unit is Theodore Roosevelt North Unit. Descendants of the Longhorn cattle that Teddy Roosevelt had on his ranch are still grazing in the park. Such big horns! We drove the entire length of the park to Oxbow. It doesn't take long and is a very pretty drive and view when you arrive. Driving back to River Bend Overlook we learned about the Bentonite clay layer that is seen in the bluffs. If you see a blue-black layer in the bluffs,

The entrance to Theodore Roosevelt National Park South Unit is located in Medora, ND. It's a cute little town where people still ride their horses down the road and everybody knows each other. It's also where Teddy Roosevelt came to grieve for his wife and mother, who had died in his house in New York city within hours of each other on Valentine's Day in 1884. He loved them both very much and in his diary on that day there is a big black "X" at the top of the entry followed

    #37 Badlands National Park, SD

Well, this was a treat! In all my childhood years (and adult years) I had NEVER seen the Badlands so lush and green. At times I couldn't believe it was the same place of my memories; it looked so different. There was even standing water in areas! We came in the southwest entrance of the park and were treated to wide open vistas filled with waving prairie grass and buffalo herds grazing. Buffalo grazing happily The Badlands consists of 244,000 acres and at first glance one

Mt. Rushmore National Monument, SD #11

Mount Rushmore is one of those places that evokes childhood memories. As ranchers, my dad couldn't be gone long from the cattle and sheep, but we would go to the Black Hills for a few days before school started. We always went to Mt. Rushmore because we loved it so much! It wasn't hard to imagine Borglum and his workers crawling around the mountain face chiseling out the faces of 4 presidents. There was also a Sioux Indian Chief by the name of Black Elk who was there much
