Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument #8

April 8, 2018

The Grand Staircase is so called because it stair steps down from Bryce Canyon all the way down to the Grand Canyon.

The top of the Grand Staircase starts with Bryce Canyon and it's pink cliffs and steps progressively down to the Gray Cliffs , the White Cliffs (Zion Canyon), the Vermilion Cliffs, the Chocolate Cliffs, the Paria Plateau, the Kaibab Plateau, and finally the Grand Canyon.

This section of the road is on a the top of a thin ridge.  It drops off significantly on either side.  I had a picture of the really thin section but it didn't turn out.  It is breath-taking to be on the road looking down at these amazing vistas.

The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is the largest of our country's National Monuments.  It was originally nearly 1.9 million acres, but in 2017 was reduced to a little over 1 million acres.

Wouldn't it be amazing to travel from the top of the Staircase to the Grand Canyon?  Hmmm...maybe that's my next adventure.
